Compare a consistent period

Check year-over-year and sequential comparisons, seasonality and whether figures are GAAP or adjusted. Read the reconciliation for non-GAAP measures. A percentage beat is incomplete without knowing the estimate and definition used.

Look beyond revenue

Review margins, cash conversion, balance-sheet changes and share count. Listen for shifts in customer demand or investment needs. Separate one-time effects from recurring economics without assuming every management adjustment is irrelevant or justified.

Update the thesis

Write what you learned, what remains uncertain and which prior assumption changed. Link the release and filing. If the data contradicts your story, revise the story instead of collecting only supportive quotes.
